OUR LOVE STORY
Our First Impression
It all started on a Friday night. He thought I was hilarious, and I couldn’t stop laughing at his jokes. What was supposed to be a drink turned into a four-day date—and we’ve pretty much been inseparable ever since.
Nothing about us is traditional. We met, and he moved in. Simple as that.
We find joy in the everyday and magic in the unexpected. From dressing up for any and every occasion (no matter how small), to heading off on impromptu adventures where everything somehow seems just down the road. We once saw lightning in the distance, didn’t think much of it… and ended up waiting out a thunderstorm—me asleep in the car, him keeping watch.
Together, we’ve gone deep-sea diving, gotten lost in new places, made memories in the quiet and the chaotic. Through it all, he’s been my partner, my constant, my best friend.
Now, we’re getting married in the wild beauty of the bush—under the trees, surrounded by the people we love most. And we can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with you.

Fast Forward to
It began with a dream: a heart-shaped diamond. Romantic, yes—realistic, not quite. Ockert quickly realized this wasn’t going to be a “pop into a store and pick a ring” situation. Thankfully, Mericke—mind-reader and style guru—gently steered the mission with a peek into Mia’s brain: forget the heart, go for the perfect salt and pepper diamond.
Browns was out. Cape Town showrooms? No luck. Enter Aunty Allison—now Diamond Consultant Extraordinaire. In a hilarious moment of brilliance, she and Ockert sat cutting paper diamonds to visualize sizes. Verdict? “Too small.” “She won’t like it.” Brutal honesty at its finest.
Back in Gauteng, Ockert launched a full-scale diamond hunt across Johannesburg and Pretoria—even reconsidering the blacklisted Cape Town stones. Panic loomed, until a last-minute call led him to the jeweller. Surrounded by sparkle, calming flower water, and nougat, he finally found it—the perfect salt and pepper diamond.
But of course, there was a twist: the diamond got stuck in customs. With the proposal looming, the jeweller crafted the ring without the stone, clinging to courier updates and hope. At the last possible moment—Friday afternoon—the finished ring was ready. Three hours later, with the ring in his pocket and butterflies in his stomach, Ockert asked the question that changed everything.

The Proposal
Our Proposal Story
AKA: The Adventure of the Almost-Boat, No-Balloon, Candlelit Proposal
Ockert had big dreams of popping the question on a boat cruise down The Blyde River. Romantic, right? Except… there were no private charters available. (And between us, he wasn’t too sad—The Blyde had nothing on the mighty Chobe, Chobezi, or Zambezi rivers where we’ve shared real adventures.)
Not one to give up, he turned his sights to the sky—a hot air balloon proposal! But alas, the balloons were grounded. (Thanks, weather!)
So what does a man do when boats and balloons both bail? He builds a fairy tale of his own.
On a quiet Friday evening—one day earlier than planned because patience was officially not a virtue—he transformed a little corner of the world into magic. A glowing pathway of candles, twinkling lights in the trees, and the soft hush of excitement in the air. He dropped to one knee under a canopy of stars and lights… and asked me to marry him.

Share The Love
Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift of all.
Should you wish to honour us with a gift, we kindly request a monetary contribution instead of a traditional registry. This will help us begin our new chapter together in the most meaningful way. A wishing well will be available at the reception for your convenience.
Accommodation Arrangements
For your comfort and convenience, we recommend Mologa River Lodge and Crimson Bush Lodge as our preferred accommodation options. Both are close to the wedding venue and offer a true bush experience.
That said, you're more than welcome to explore and book any other nearby lodge or accommodation that suits your style and budget. The bush is big and beautiful — and you're free to stay wherever you feel most at home!
We do recommend booking early as December is a busy time in the area.
Arrangeable with Mia & Ockert
Mologa River Lodge – Breakfast included
Crimson Bush Lodge – Self-Catering
When planning your journey from your accommodation to the reception, please consider travel time rather than distance. This will help account for road conditions and ensure you arrive at the wedding reception on time.
